National Institute of Architectural Education (N.I.A.E.) Portable Theater Competition – Awarded First Prize
Project Background: A two-part exploration consisting of a) A Center for Pilgrimage and Performance and B) A Portable Theater (which received first place in the National Institute of Architectural Education’s Design America Accessible Competition).
The Center is located in a refurbished turn-of-the century farmer’s chapel in Indiana. Design influences combine religious iconography suggesting gothic form and the historical relationship between performance and religious ritual. Additional influences are derived from industrial structures that are seen in the surrounding agricultural landscape.
